This week, we decided to focus our camera and words on the guerrilla gardening that has been happening in some of the laneways in HV. We all know the beautiful job that the folks around Croft have done on their laneway, so we decided to focus this week on a couple of projects by neighbours to spruce up and beautify their own laneways.
The first picture is of morning glories going wild in a laneway between SC/SE. It only took a sprinkling of seeds and the plant did the rest. And, as we all know, there will just be more next year and the next year and the next year.
The other guerrilla gardening is the work of a few neighbours who last year decided to take over scraps of land in a laneway straddling NC/NW area of HV. With recycled and repurposed material, they built a small flower bed and planted things that would come back this year too.
Think about your own laneway and what you could do to beautify it. It doesn’t take a lot of soil or work for some plants to grow. Why not become a guerrilla- laneway gardener today?
We’re still looking for some shots of gardens from NE, NW, NC and SE. Please take a walk and send us some pictures from your area of HV. If it’s not your own garden, please ask for permission for us to use it. We don't identify the owner of the garden or the exact location.
By the way, you might want to check out the HVRA Gardeners Group website to find out what they’ve been up to. You could also get some advice on what you could plant in your laneway.
